Civil Engineering


In 1932 the fist two majors were introduced: Buildings and Water Supply, which are the basis of the faculty today. During the period of 1934 - 1937 NIVIT (the first name of the STU) had the Faculty of Buildings on Railways headed by Fyodor P. Sivochkin, Dean. After reorganization this major retained within the framework of trie Railway Construction, Track and Track Facilities Faculty.

As an independent division, the faculty was set up in 1957 (Civil Engineering in Railway Transport). The first Dean was Sergey S. Ulrikh.
Faculty Today
• 120 first-year students (80 bachelors and 40 undergraduates)
• 400 full-time students (340 bachelors and 60 undergraduates)
• 20 specialist classrooms and laboratories
Training laboratories: Building Structures, Water Supply and Hydraulics, and Water Conditioning.

The faculty trains specialists in five majors.
Engineer Bachelor of building:
• Civil Engineering
• Water Supply and Sewerage
• Real Estate Expert Examination and Management
Bachelor in Economics:
• Enterprise Economics and Management (in the Construction Industry)
• Building business economy
Masters in construction:
• Theory and design of building systems
• Management and expertise of real estate

Main research-and-production trends:
• design of civil and industrial buildings and structures (railway stations, depots, dwelling houses, public buildings, etc.)
• examination and evaluation of existing and projected buildings strength and stability
• inspection, expert technical examination and reconstruction of estate property
• enterprise estate property management
• water treatment and purification for drinking and industrial usage
• design of water supply facilities and drainage systems at railway stations
• preparation and exploitation of the equipment for clean water delivery, and disposal of waste or contaminated water

The faculty comprises five departments:
• Buildings, building constructions and materials
• Chemistry
• Construction Technology, Organization and Economics
• Draughtsmanship
• Hydraulics and Water Supply, Water Resources and Ecology

The faculty employs 9 Doctors of Sciences, Professors; 35 Candidates of Sciences; Assistant Professors.

About 7,000 specialists have graduated from the faculty.
